How Does Laser Tattoo Removal Work?

Laser tattoo removal treatments are performed by using a handheld laser device that delivers a high-intensity light beam to the tattooed area. From here, the light is absorbed by the ink pigments, breaking the pigment down without damaging the surrounding skin.

What To Expect

Initially, you can expect a simple spot test to be performed at the beginning of your treatment to ensure the laser is on the proper setting for your skin type. Our laser tattoo removal technology allows us to adjust the light beams based on tattoo size and skin condition. For smaller and more faded tattoos, fewer pulses and less intense light beams will be used. Whereas with larger and more vibrant tattoos, more intense light beams with quicker pulses can be expected. 

The number of treatments required to fully remove a tattoo varies based on tattoo size, age, and color. We typically recommend anywhere from five to ten treatments for optimal results, which can be discussed with our technicians during your consultation. In order for your skin to process the treatment, we space the sessions out six to eight weeks apart. You can expect to see results a few months after the process starts, with the most visible improvements after the third treatment.

This treatment is generally less painful than getting a tattoo. The tattooed area is considered to be scar tissue, so it may be sensitive to the laser. For this reason, our technicians can apply a topical anesthetic to help ease any discomfort you may experience.

After your treatment, the treated area will be covered with an antibiotic cream and soothed by an ice pack. While there is no downtime, you will need to protect your skin from sun exposure and follow a strict skincare routine for optimal healing results.
